Walmart Visit

It was kinda a big deal..

This one particular day living in Colorado, my mom decided to take a trip out to Walmart to pick up some groceries with us three kids. Now, let me tell you this, driving out to Walmart was a big deal for our family. The drive from our little town to the closest Walmart was about a 45 minute drive depending on the weather and trains.

To make time go by a little easier we would connect one of our iPods to the car’s bluetooth and jam out to some of Disney top hits. Finally arriving at the store, my sister, Tiffany, and I would insist on wondering the store by ourselves. After getting the okay from mom we took our usual course first going to the Barbies and Littlest Pet Shop toys then to the pet area to look at the fish. Following the fish, we dashed over to the makeup aisle dreaming of one day being allowed to wear makeup.

Just a Smile

In the midst of our little excursion, Tiffany and I attempted to race to the next planned area when out of know where this lady, pushing a grocery cart, turned the corner into our aisle just as we began to leave. Quickly I pulled Tiffany away by her shoulders and faced the lady with a smile excusing us.

Not forgetting about the race, we charged right ahead, but before I knew it, that same lady came up to me and thanked me for the simple act of kindness I gave her. Unsure of what to say or do, I stood there and listened as she went on telling me that it had been a long time since anyone did anything that nice to her.

New Perspective

I was just going through the motions if I am honest with you. I knew that it was polite to offer others a generous smile, especially in situations like this. But as a young girl, this woman touched my heart in such an astonishing way. It was like God had shifted my eyes to an entirely new perspective. I never considered thinking that just a simple smile could change someones day.

Ever since then I have not been able to shake that feeling from my heart. Everywhere that I go and everything that I do, I want to be a blessing to those around me. I so desire for people to see God shinning through me! Even I get caught up with going through the motions. BUT GOD slows me down to see what’s going on around me.

As you go through your day today, I want to remind you that even though you might feel like you’re going through the motions such as smiling at people as they pass by, or simply saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.  Keep in mind that we truly don’t know what people are struggling with. Just a simple act of kindness is a small, yet so effective, it can change someones day for the best!

My Question for you..

What can you do this week that can impact just one person? Will you actually do it or will you make the excuse not to do it? Who knows you might be the one who will help bring hope back into their life.
