The Impossible
Have you ever experienced seasons where it seems impossible to pray and talk to God? Maybe you have or are currently experiencing a time when your dreams and prayers seem too big to ask God for. Why talk to God if you feel as though he will make fun of what you ask for or belittle your big dreams and prayers.
Hannah
I love Hannah’s story in the Bible found in the beginning of 1 Samuel. Hannah was one of two wives of a man named Elkanah. The story explains how the other wife, Peninnah, had children, but Hannah did not. (1 Samuel 1:2) Not to mention the fact that Peninnah had the nerve to rub that into Hannah’s face. It reached the point where Hannah wept and would not eat.
Long Story Short..
To make a long, beautiful story short, Hannah prayed to Lord. Looking back in scripture we can read how she prayed. Yes, it does tell us some of what she prayed, but how she prayed is significant. In 1 Samuel 1:12 it says, ‘Hannah was praying in her heart, silently. Her lips moved, but no sound was heard.’
Eli thought she was a drunk, but Hannah explained how she was pouring her heart out to the Lord. (1 Samuel 1:14-16)
As the Word of God tells us, Hannah later gave birth to a son named Samuel.
Perspective
You see Hannah had a dream that was impossible for her to make come to pass. She was bullied over this dream and prayer. The Bible doesn’t give us details about the entire journey she faced. I bet she had days when she shut the whole world out. Dare I say she might have shut God out for a moment in her life? I don’t know.
Just as Human
What I do know is that Hannah was a human, just like you and me. She had to go through some hard seasons. Finally, one day after years of unanswered prayers, Hannah gave it one more shot. She didn’t just pray any normal prayer. No, Hannah poured her whole heart into this prayer.
Wrap your mind around this..
My friend, it is impossible to wrap our human minds around the love and care our God truly has for each one of us. His love for us is unfathomable. I love what Romans 8 tells us,
“In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s peopple in accordance with the will of God.”
My Question For You
What is it you have been dreaming about? What prayer haven’t you prayed yet because of how big it is? I challenge you this week to find a quiet place with courage to pray. Pray just as Hannah did, pray with all your heart!
